The United States Armed Forces were the overall unified military forces of the United States before the War, composed of the United States Army, United States Marine Corps, United States Navy, United States Coast Guard, and United States Air Force. The President served as the Commander-in-Chief of the military.

Many key factions of the wasteland are rooted in the Armed Forces.

Shortly after the war, a group of US Army Engineers took over the Arizona State Death Row. The inmates were expelled into the surrounding deserts. The facility is rechristened as the Ranger Center, and the Desert Rangers were born.

Soldiers stationed at a satellite relay facility, which survived the war unscathed, joined up with local farmers to form the Agricultural Center, a prosperous community centered around self-sufficiency and trading.
